I remember seeing a tool that placed stars next to Google search results - green for safe, red for unsafe, etc. However, I cannot remember which software that was.

Are you sure it was a star? Was it specifically a an anti-phish tool, or was it something like SiteAdvisor or SiteHound

Yes, they were 5-pointed 3-D stars, as far as I remember.
