Automatic updates never run on my computer. I have the service started, and set it to notify but dont download and install. However, no yellow icon in the taskbar.

I followed most of these instructions that apply to me at http://www.amset.info/windows/auto-updates.asp, did not really help that much.

When I go into Microsoft Update through ie. The page only says "done" nothing loads. What is going on?

If this fixes itself, I will update all of you. Currently, I have to manually download the patches from another computer and manually install them on my computer.

Have you tried running Dial-a-Fix? - this generally sorts out Update problems.

Also check that the following are added to the Trusted Zone ….

http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

http://update.microsoft.com

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
